Outside of St Andrews

The historic building has strong connections with the Wesley Family. Reverend Samuel Wesley was the Rector here from 1695 to 1735 and his sons John, the founder of Methodism, and Charles a prolific hymn writer, were born in Epworth. After his ordination John was curate for a time to his father and in later life when he was denied access to the church he preached from his father’s tomb.

St Andrew’s Church is an important church both architecturally and historically but it is neither a museum or a shrine. Our witness to Almighty God is of far greater importance and it is therefore the parish church which serves the people. There is constant and regular worship on Sundays and at other times.
