Pinnacle

This also dates from the Perpendicular Period and has buttresses inside the church encroaching onto the arcades. During 1999/2000 a major restoration programme was undertaken on the tower that included a new roof, string course, battlements and pinnacles.

The tower houses a peal of eight bells and the tenor weighs seventeen hundredweights (869 kilograms). It is inscribed:

“to commemorate the coronation of HM King George VI 12th 1937” Arthur Maw.

1937 saw the removal of the previous peal of six bells to be recast with some additional metal to form the current peal of eight.
